Should You DIY or Hire A Designer?

Blog June 7 2022

Planning a wedding can be quite the undertaking. Between sourcing inspiration from Pinterest and other wedding publications, it’s certainly not a job for the busy or inexperienced!

The DIY route (do-it-yourself) is a popular direction however for wedding couples who have the time and patience to design and plan their own wedding.

DIY is an admirable venture that can be well worth it in the end as you see your guests in awe of the beautiful wedding that you put together!

DIY can also be a budget-friendly option for couples who are fiscally minded (but that’s not always the case) and it is important to consider the EFFORT that goes into designing a wedding.

Is DIY really the right path for you or should you hire a designer to help? Ask yourself these questions in order to make the best decision for your wedding.

Do you have the time?

Designing a wedding is a full-time job – that’s why event designers specialize in it!

If you’re finding yourself overwhelmed with the prospect of planning a wedding, you’re not alone. Rather than bring undue stress into your life, hiring a professional will take that extra work off your plate.

You may not want to spend the night before your wedding scrambling to complete all of those last-minute DIY projects!

Is it in your budget?

For many wedding couples, the budget is a primary concern. An extra vendor comes with a price tag so only bring on a professional if it fits your budget.

Don’t be afraid to reach out to several designers to see if they can work within your budget. You may be surprised to find cost-effective ways to ensure you get what you want for the price you want.

Do you have experience?

One of the perks of having a professional designer is knowing that your wedding will be designed by someone with lots of experience, as well as access to elaborate software and established relationships with other vendors. In many cases, having the right resources and connections readily available can come with savings in itself.

The decision is ultimately yours! DIY really can be a rewarding project but it’s not for everyone which is why hiring a professional is always an option.
